Spray can maiden voyage at Teufelsberg, Berlin
Posted in New on September 27, 2014 by fremithiFirst attempt with spray cans, wow what a start of this journey! It is going to be a long one, with infinite possible outcomes. More walls! Bigger buildings!
This wall was obviously not big enough, approx. 200cm x 275cm. None the less, this technique has some benefits. No more scraping and muddling with brushes, and it doesn’t matter what surface you spray on. To be continued!

Posted in New on September 10, 2013 by fremithiDuring the Tag des Offenen Denkmals in Berlin 2013 at the Teufelsberg, former NSA-site, Fremithi participated with this mural, it measures about 200 x 300 cm. It was made as part of a quest for the mystery surrounding the transition to the afterlife. What happens when we die? Where does the soul go? And how is the pineal gland, deep inside the brain, involved in this process? Descartes called this tiny organ the Third Eye. The pineal gland might play an important role during the dying process, to ease the transition of the Self from its physical confinement into the realm of ethereal consciousness. It might act as a sort of gateway for the soul.
Inside the former NSA-spying complex from the Cold War, the mural remains hidden. Only those who seek to find it during the guided tours that are conducted throughout the year, will be rewarded with a glance into another reality.

Exhibition at Nerdlab: Alternate Realities, part of E-pulse Festival 2012
Posted in New on June 4, 2012 by fremithiWithin the E-pulse festival, Fremtihi will take part in the exhibition of Alternate Realities, at the Nerdlab in Electron, Breda. Opening is on October, 26.
Machines from the future, or from the past? A universe where all sense of scale and proportion is broken down. A loose collection of parts put back together, although technological and organic in form, without apparent meaning. Elemental particles in an anatomy lesson of the universe revealing the unknowable word of God.

Possibilities of the unknown

One of the things that keeps my clock ticking is the inability to fully know or comprehend what is out there. That state of slight fear and expectation, while descending into the ultimate mystery of existence is one of the emotions I tried to put into this work.

The concept of a Chimera, an ancient Greek mythological beast crafted (or welded?) together from parts of different animals intrigues me. In ancient times often a harbinger of disaster, a modern age Chimera could be some sort of doomsday machine. It could be lurking in your veins, or float above your head in the sky…
New work, and a tragic loss…
Posted in older posts on May 10, 2011 by fremithiAs a child, I’d often wonder, and dream about all the interesting places that must lie hidden away from daily existence. I figured there must be countless strange spaces everywhere. Later on, I dreamt about them, too. Strange places I would enter like caves, mysterious endless tunnels leading to new and hidden worlds. In my work I want to recreate that feeling of wonder and fear when entering a new and unexplored world.
Gateways to these hidden places can be found in urban environments: traffic signal controllers, those grey control boxes near intersections, doors in the basement of abandoned buildings, sewer systems, or other kinds of tunnels like underground railway systems. In a way, the dynamic environments above are shaping these hidden worlds that lie beneath them. They are linked in a certain way.
Due to a terrible misunderstanding, the work shown below is lost. All that exists are these pictures, and my subconsciousness, of course…
The project shown below I made in the Fine Arts school building on the Prinsessegracht, The Hague.
The walls of the staircase represent two different dimensions, like the architecture of a time machine. This Time Machine, or Gateway, could be used to enter a Hidden Place. It was made during the Spring of 2011, with markers, oilbars, spray can, and oil paint on paper. Dimensions approx. 6 metres long by 3 metres high. Unfortunately, this work is also lost.
